This work by the prominent Ukrainian historian, political figure, Head of the Central Rada of the Ukrainian People's Republic, and academician Mykhailo Hrushevsky is well known to a wide readership.
The edition is printed according to the 1921 text published by Dniprosoyuz (Kyiv–Vienna), which is particularly noteworthy for its final pages — written by Hrushevsky “hot on the heels” of the events, just before the actual proclamation of Pavlo Skoropadsky as Hetman.
Given the historical and cultural value of this work, the original orthography has been preserved as faithfully as possible.
